We took Luke out for his first extended trip this past week to celebrate Christmas and New Years with the grandparents. We ended up staying for 10 days in Houston- thats a lot of packing for a newborn! Zach had to work Christmas Eve, so after he got off we packed up the car and braved the freezing temps and snow to drive on down to The Woodlands. It turns out the last time Fort Worth had a white christmas was in 1923, and we left it behind. It would have been kind of nice to have a white christmas again- but the snow didn't follow us to Houston.
We were the last to arrive at my parents house and were excited to see that my brother Matt and sister-in-law Rebecca were already there, along with their goldendoodle, Hailey. Hailey was very interested in Luke- she is going to be a great big sister-dog one day! The next morning we all woke up early to find that Santa had made his annual trip under the tree. Luke slept through his first christmas- but I guess thats to be expected with a 2-week old!

We stayed at my parents house until New Years Eve. Zach's dad came home from working in Chad (in Africa) and we were able to surprise him with a visit when he arrived home from the airport. He didn't know we were going to be in town and was excited to finally meet Luke. I wish we had a picture of them meeting for the first time- but we didn't unpack the camera fast enough. We then were able to celebrate a second Christmas with Zach's family in Houston. His sister Gabbi and her husband Jason came down with my nephew Shawn. He is 2 1/2, and really seemed to enjoy opening his presents this year. He was VERY excited to open his presents, then announce "It's a Box!!!" Forget the toys inside- I'm just giving him boxes from now on :) We enjoyed our visits with both sets of family in Houston. Now we just need to make a trip to Austin to Zach's mom for our 3rd christmas celebration!
